Now That You Ask

A life story, one phone call at a time

Every week, a patient listener calls Mom. By next year, her life story is a hardcover book.

Now That You Ask is a warm AI interviewer that calls your parent or grandparent on the phone they already have, landline included. One gentle conversation a week, about one part of their life. Each call becomes a chapter in their own words, with the recording beside it. After about 45 calls, we print the book.

No app. No computer. Nothing for them to learn. They just answer the phone.

How it works

You set it up

Tell us their name, their phone number, a good time each week, and a few starter facts: where they grew up, a spouse's name, the children's names. Talk with them first, so they expect the call.

We call, every week

On the first call the interviewer says plainly that it is an AI arranged by the family, that the call is recorded to write their story, and asks for a clear yes. Then 20 to 30 unhurried minutes, one theme at a time.

A chapter, in their words

After each call, a new chapter appears on your private family page, written from their own words, with the audio behind it. The whole family gets an email. You can drop in questions for next week.

The book arrives

After 40 to 50 calls, we lay out a hardcover book with your photos, a dedication and a closing page, and ship it to you. Order extra copies for the whole family.

Sample chapter, from an invented storyteller

My First Paid Job

My first paid job was at Woolworth's on Lackawanna Avenue, at the lunch counter, when I was fifteen. I made fifty cents an hour plus tips, and the tips were mostly nickels.

I gave half to my mother and saved the rest for a coat I wanted in the window at Globe Store. My boss was Mrs. Pritchard, who said a smile was part of the uniform. That job taught me to talk to anybody.

The calls ask follow-up questions from everything said before: "Last week you told me your father drove a bread truck. What was your first paid job?" Nothing is invented. If a detail is unclear, it becomes a question for a later call.

Built to be gentle and safe

Always honest

It says it is an AI on every call, and never pretends to be a person. The recording notice is spoken on every call.

Their choice, always

No yes, no recording. If they ever say "stop calling", the calls stop for good.

Never asks for anything

It never asks for money, account numbers, passwords, their address or medical details, and gives no advice. If those come up, it changes the subject.

Watching out for them

If they sound confused, upset or unwell, it ends the call kindly, writes nothing, and sends you a short note.

Private and yours

Recordings are stored encrypted. Only the family you invite can read the page. One click deletes everything, recordings included.

Made for real phones

A slower, clearer voice that waits through long pauses, for landlines, hearing aids and quiet talkers.

Questions

Does it work on a landline?

Yes. It calls any US phone number. There is nothing to install and nothing to press.

What if my mother says no?

Then we stop, kindly, and record nothing. We'll tell you, and we'll never call that number again. Please talk with them before you sign up.

Is it a real person?

No. It is an AI interviewer, and it says so on every call. It is patient, it remembers what they told it last week, and it never gets tired of a good story.

Can the family add questions?

Yes. Anyone on the family page can drop in a question. Two are asked on each call, in your name.

What if they miss a call?

We try two more times that day. If we still can't reach them, you get a short note, and we try again next week.

Who can hear the recordings?

Only the people you invite to the family page. Recordings are encrypted at rest, and you can delete everything with one click.

Do you work with hospices and senior living communities?

Yes. Email us for per-resident pricing.
